In the Orthodox Christian tradition, marriage is a sacrament. A sacrament is a holy mystery where God’s grace blesses and transforms human life. In the Sacrament of Marriage, love is sanctified, showing that marriage is not only about two people loving each other but about their union being joined to Christ. Christ Himself spoke of the seriousness and permanence of marriage, teaching that “what God has joined together, let no one separate” (Matthew 19:6).During the service, the couple is prayed over and blessed, they listen to God’s Word, and are crowned with the crowns of God’s glory. The Crowning is the most distinctive part of the ceremony. The crowns show that the couple are God’s children, witnesses (martyrs) to His love in the world, and heirs of His Kingdom. They symbolize joy, honor, and the sacred responsibility of marriage, but they are also called crowns of martyrdom. The crowns remind them that marriage is a shared race toward salvation, echoing Scripture’s promise of the “crown of righteousness” (2 Timothy 4:8) and the “crown of life” (James 1:12).In the sacrament of marriage, a man and a woman are given the possibility to become one spirit and one flesh in a way which no human love can provide by itself (Matthew 19:6). In Christian marriage the Holy Spirit is given so that what is begun on earth does not “part in death” but is fulfilled and continues most perfectly in the Kingdom of God.The wedding is fulfilled when the couple receives Holy Communion together. In that moment, their love is lifted into eternity and placed within the presence of God’s Kingdom. The sacrament of marriage reveals that love is not only for this life but is meant to share in God’s eternal joy.

Vespers is the traditional Orthodox Christian evening prayer service. It lasts about an hour and includes hymns and prayers. Guests are welcome to simply sit quietly and observe, no participation is required. This service happens every evening in Orthodox churches, so you’ll be experiencing a beautiful part of the daily life of the Church. Absolutely! We’d love for you to bring a guest and share the celebration together. Please be sure to include their name when you RSVP. If a plus one isn’t listed, we won’t be able to guarantee seating or a meal for them.

Yes! Children are warmly invited to join us for both the ceremony and the reception. We’ll have plenty of space and a joyful atmosphere, so little ones are more than welcome to be part of the celebration. Please be sure to include them in your RSVP. Tyrick is half Jamaican and Lauren is half Guyanese, so together they make one whole Caribbean! So naturally the cuisine will be Caribbean! If you have any dietary restrictions, please list them in your RSVP so we can plan a meal you’ll enjoy.
